Privacy

dxbydy is a study app. It needs to know which formulas you have reviewed and how they went, because that is the whole mechanism. It does not need anything else, and does not collect anything else.

What we collect

When you create an account:

Your email address, and your name if you give one. Sign in with Apple lets you hide your real address — if you do, we only ever see the relay address Apple gives us, and that is fine.
Which sign-in method you used (email, Google or Apple).
Your time zone, so a reminder set for 9am arrives at 9am where you are.

As you study:

The subjects and decks you choose.
Each review: which card, how you rated your recall, and when. This is what the scheduler reads to work out when to show the card next.
Any cards you write yourself.
Your settings — daily targets, reminder time and days.

If you turn on reminders, we store a push notification token for your device. It identifies the app installation, not you, and deleting the app or turning reminders off removes it.

What we do not do

No advertising, and no selling or sharing of your data with advertisers. There is no business model here that depends on you being profiled.
No third-party analytics or tracking pixels on this website.
No cookies on this website. It is a static page — fonts are served from our own domain rather than a font provider, so loading it does not tell anyone else that you visited.
We do not read anything you write and use it for anything other than showing it back to you.

Who else is involved

A few services are needed to make the app work. They handle data on our instructions and for no other purpose:

Google Firebase, for sign-in. It handles your password (we never see it) and issues the token that proves who you are.
Our database and application hosting provider, which stores your study data.
Apple and Google's push notification services, which deliver reminders to your device if you turn them on.
Sign in with Google or Apple involves those companies at the moment you sign in, under their own privacy terms.

Students under 18

dxbydy is built for Year 11 and 12 students, so many of the people using it are under 18. We collect the minimum that makes the app work and nothing that would support profiling or advertising to a young person.

If you are a parent or guardian and want to see what we hold about your child, or want it deleted, contact us at the address below and we will help.

Your data, your call

You can ask for a copy of everything we hold about you.
You can correct anything that is wrong.
You can delete your account, and the study data goes with it.
You can turn reminders off at any time in the app, which removes the notification token.

We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). If you think we have got something wrong, tell us first — and if you are not satisfied with how we respond, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

Keeping it safe

Data is sent over an encrypted connection and stored on managed infrastructure with access limited to the people who maintain the service. No system is perfect, and we will not pretend otherwise — but there is deliberately very little here worth stealing, because we do not collect it.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and, for anything significant, say so in the app rather than quietly editing the page.
